Mil Milagros Director of Communications & Special Projects
Mil Milagros is a high-impact non-profit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts and Panajachel, Guatemala that works in partnership with rural communities to prevent malnutrition and hunger and to improve children’s health and education in rural Guatemala.
Today, 50% of children in Guatemala are malnourished, with rates exceeding 70% in rural communities like those where MM works, and only 40% of children graduate from sixth grade. MM is fundamentally changing these odds by engaging and partnering with more than 700 mothers, grandmothers, and teachers to serve more than 1,500 children in community-based nutrition, health/hygiene, and education programs. Graduation rates are up to 97% in our partner schools and measures of chronic malnutrition are down 50% in our partner communities.
Mil Milagros has a strong team of committed staff, volunteers, and community partners and is growing in response to the extensive need and the proven impact of our approach. MM is seeking a special professional for the newly created position of Director of Communications and Special Projects. The use of effective communication tools, helping to manage donor/partner visits, and preparing targeted acknowledgements are critical in this period of growth, as well as the management of special projects in our partner schools/communities. This position will be devoted half time to managing communications and half time to working in the field to manage special projects. In the area of communications, Director will be responsible for managing social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube); shooting videos and photos; supporting fundraising efforts, and working with In-Country Director to draft reports and donor specific acknowledgements. The management of special projects includes our school lending library program, working with our early literacy volunteer, supporting our school gardens project, school murals, and developing a “how-to” guide to Mil Milagros programs (in partnership with the rest of the staff team). Director will also serve as primary staff lead to support visitors and long term volunteers (just one or two per year).
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the organization’s mission and have the experience and drive necessary to work as a successful member of a dynamic staff team.
